Are you super excited for the New Year? Many people are excited as we start a new decade. I love saying 2020! It does have a nice ring to it, right? Some of the most popular 2020 New Year’s Resolutions include: Exercising More, Saving Money and Eating Healthier.

While the new year symbolizes a fresh start, many of us don’t stick to our resolutions. Why? It’s because we lose motivation very quickly. Unfortunately, instant gratification has defined our culture. We get frustrated when we don’t see immediate results. Over 40% of those who make a resolution will give up before the end of January.

The 3 tips below have helped me reach my goals. Check them out:

• Pace Yourself, Take Baby Steps
Taking baby steps decreases the pressure. It also increases motivation. The likelihood of sticking to those resolutions will be much higher when you take baby steps. For example, if you want to get into the habit of exercising, and it’s been a long time since you’ve exercised, consider exercising for 15 minutes for the first time. As you get more comfortable, increase the duration of your exercise and the intensity of your exercise. If you want to eat healthier, start eating healthier snacks, and then eventually, start eating one healthy meal a day (lunch or dinner). Once your body adjusts, eat healthy meals throughout the day. Remember, we are human and sometimes we will fall. The key is to “get up” and continue working towards your goal. You got this!

• Be Realistic & Give Yourself Time
Giving ourselves adequate time to see results is key. If you don’t, then you WILL give up. It takes approximately 60 days (not 21 days) for a person to form a long-term habit. Once it becomes a habit, you’ll see results sooner.

• Do Not Compare Yourself to Others
It doesn’t matter if your friend lost weight during the 1st four weeks of his or her “eat healthy & exercise” program, and you didn’t. Our bodies are different. If you keep comparing yourself to others, you will lose motivation. Focus on YOU.
