WHAT IS ORGANIZATIONAL WELL-BEING?

Organizational well-being is defined as an organization’s ability to function effectively through its culture, leadership, workforce and internal processes. Well-being should start at the top of the organization and must be integrated into the company’s culture and business strategy. It also allows organizations to create a healthy work culture where employees feel empowered, motivated and balanced.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE & COMPLEMENTARY MEDICINE?

Alternative Medicine is defined as a variety of therapeutic or preventive health care practices, such as homeopathy, naturopathy, chiropractic, and herbal medicine, that do not follow generally accepted medical methods and may not have a scientific explanation for their effectiveness.

Complementary medicine is defined as a method of health care that combines the therapies and philosophies of conventional medicine with those of alternative medicines, such as acupuncture, herbal medicine, and biofeedback.

WHAT IS INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE?
It is medicine that integrates the therapies of alternative medicine with those practiced by mainstream medical practitioners.

WHAT IS HOLISTIC TREATMENT?
It is an approach that focuses on mind, body, and spirit to achieve wellness.

WHY UTILIZE A HOLISTIC APPROACH?
Many of our clients are frustrated with conventional medicine. They understand that drugs and surgery are not always the answer to all of their health problems. In fact, they want to be treated with natural and more holistic healing methods. When our clients incorporate holistic medicine in their lifestyle, they are able to fully experience the benefits of physical health, emotional well-being, and spiritual connection.

WHY SHOULD I EVEN CONSIDER ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE WHEN I’VE ONLY UTILIZED CONVENTIONAL MEDICINE?
While many of our clients have been treated by medical doctors who practice conventional medicine, they want to take more control over their health and not depend on medication or surgery. In fact, we have found that many people are looking for alternative methods of healing.

WHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE?
It is a medical technique in which needles are inserted into the skin and underlying tissues. One or more small metal needles are inserted at precise points along 12 meridians (pathways) in the body, through which the vital life force (qi) is believed to flow. This helps restore yin-yang balance and treat disease caused by yin-yang imbalance. Acupuncture helps relieve pain and is used as an anesthetic for surgery.

WHAT IS ACUPRESSURE?
It is an alternative medicine practice in which pressure is applied to points on the body aligned along 12 main meridians (pathways), usually for a short time, to improve the flow of vital force (qi). Though often referred to by its Japanese name, shiatsu, it originated in China thousands of years ago. A single point may be pressed to relieve a specific symptom or condition, or a series of points can be worked on to promote overall well-being. Some studies suggest that acupressure can be effective for certain health problems, including nausea, pain, and stroke-related weakness.

WHAT IS CHIROPRACTIC MEDICINE?
It is a system for treating disorders of the body, especially those of the bones, muscles, and joints, by manipulating the vertebrae of the spine and related structures.

WHAT IS HOMEOPATHY?
It is a system of therapeutics founded in 1796 by Samuel Hahnemann on the principle that “like cures like.” That is, substances that in healthy persons would produce the symptoms from which the patient suffers are used to treat the patient. Hahnemann further stated that the potency of a curative agent increases as the substance is diluted. When it was introduced, homeopathy was a mild, welcome alternative to heavy-handed therapies such as bleeding.

WHAT IS NATUROPATHY?
It is a system of treatment of disease that avoids drugs and surgery, using a wide variety of therapies, including hydrotherapy, heat, massage, and herbal medicine. Its purpose is to treat the whole person to stimulate and support the person’s own innate healing capacity. It emphasizes the use of natural agents (as air, water, and herbs) and physical means (as tissue manipulation and electrotherapy).

WHAT IS THE “WHOLE BODY APPROACH”?
It is an approach to medical care that emphasizes the study of all aspects of a person’s health, including physical, psychological, social, economic, and cultural factors.

WHAT IS ENERGY MEDICINE?
Energy medicine proposes that imbalances in the body’s “energy field” result in illness, and by rebalancing the body’s energy field, health can be restored.

WHAT IS HYPNOTHERAPY?
Hypnotherapy attempts to address the client’s subconscious mind. In practice, the Hypnotherapist often requires the client to be in a relaxed state, frequently enlists the power of the client’s own imagination and may utilize a wide range of techniques from story telling, metaphor or symbolism to the use of direct suggestions for beneficial change. Hypnosis can be used to help gain control over undesired behaviors or to help cope better with anxiety or pain. It is important to know that although you’re more open to suggestion during hypnosis, you don’t lose control over your behavior.

WHAT ARE ANTI-OXIDANTS?
They are substances (like beta-carotene, vitamin C, and alpha-tocopherol) that inhibit oxidation or reactions promoted by oxygen and peroxides. Antioxidants help protect the body from disease and and also help slow down the aging process. They fight free radicals that harm cells in the body. Low antioxidant levels result in oxidative stress, making the body susceptible to many illnesses including heart disease and cancer. Antioxidants should be consumed daily to keep the body strong and healthy. They can be found in many fruits and vegetables. Common antioxidants include vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E, selenium, beta-carotene, flavonoids and polyphenols. Below are some foods that are rich in antioxidants:

  • Berries
  • Artichokes
  • Red Grapes and Red Wine
  • Beans
  • Carrots
  • Apples
  • Potatoes
  • Dark Chocolate
